The Department of Special Education at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College invites applications for the Director of the Susan Gray School. This is a clinical faculty position (open rank, non-tenure line, professor of the practice of special education) in the area of early childhood special education (ECSE). The primary duties of the position are to 1) serve as the faculty director of the Susan Gray School (SGS) for Children (an inclusive toddler and preschool program serving approximately 100 children on the Vanderbilt campus); 2) provide leadership in the development of the school as a national model for  evidence-based inclusive early intervention and early childhood education; and 3) engage in grant writing and development efforts to obtain funding for service,  research and training activities related to the school. As a faculty member in the department of special education, the applicant will be expected to 4) provide leadership, teach  courses, and advise students in the ECSE master’s program; and 5) collaborate with ECSE faculty and students in  conducting  applied research related to early intervention. 

 

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in special education or a related field with an emphasis in ECSE and will have a record of leadership in ECSE services (model development, classroom teaching, program development, program administration). Expertise and experience in preparing ECSE practitioners in evidence-based practices and evidence of applied scholarship in ECSE are also necessary. Candidates should submit an application letter describing their qualifications and how their accomplishments address the expectations noted above. They should forward a curriculum vita, three samples of scholarly writing, and contact information for three people from whom letters of reference may be requested.  Screening of applications will begin April 15 and continue until the position is filled.
